Comments Off on MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK LJUBLJANA fashion, my words, review, sara darling, schon magazine, Stylist

Solvenia’s Fashion Week is worth a look

I was invited to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Ljubljana, to cover the shows for Schon! Magazine which was a first for me, and I was quite excited to visit Slovenia. With up to 3000 guests at the super sleek event which consisted of shows in sets of three, the designers hustled from Slovenia and the surrounding countries. But with FROW seating for the duration, I soaked up every second.

The production, talent and after parties (oh and meeting Simon from The Shapeshifters) definitely made it a fashion week to remember! Just please excuse my pronunciation of the designer’s names…

Comments Off on FIVE DAYS OF SS18 FASHION AT LFW fashion, fblogger, my words, news, review, sara darling, Stylist, womenswear styling

London Fashion Week was five days of fabulousness. With all the usual heavyweights showcasing their collections, whether it be by catwalk, film or presentation- we even poached Tommy Hilfiger  from New York!

As expected, there were the outrageously impractical cuffs, summer sequins, larger than life ruffles and anoraks on display. Yup, the Great British summer essential is now making waves, or at least puddles on the runway… Even the Queen’s timeless style was immortalised at the Bora Aksu show.

My personal favourites were (as usual), Ashish and his Witch logo top,

for summer sequins, and Osman for something (everything) pretty.  Matty Bovan who showcased at Fashion East, let loose with a colouring box and created a collection fit for a modern art gallery. Jasper Conran is the label to look to for understated sportswear, and Markus Lupfer not only presented with a gorgeous sausage dog, his patterns, knits and crochet combos are on my lust list. And don’t get me started on his sunglasses! With Christopher Kane tickig all my boxes for oversized monochrome.

Nicola Formichetti’s Nicopanda offered a cutesy selection of pastel pinks, albeit in PVC dungarees, and ruffled shirts. Even conservative stalwart, Paul Costelloe showcased his classic models in clashing red and pink PVC (no less!). The male models complemented this in a range of wedding ready suits- with the pastel rainbow two piece gaining a round of applause!

Bum bags are back at House of Holland along with a ninety ravers vibe, and if you have the figure for it, squeeze into one of Donatella Versace’s Vogue print catsuits…if they are good enough for the original supers…! (shown in Milan, but loved everywhere…) Newbie designer Billie Jacobina hit the spot with skateboarding girls and prints to dazzle in her Fashion Scout presentation.

However, if you are looking something more aherm, refined, the eighties were leading the way at Ashley Williams with tiger print twin sets, and blue hair! The eighties also cropped up at the off-schedule shows including Irene Sj Yu (tiger print, crop tops, ruffles and lacing).

For a touch of Anne of Green Gables, kit yourself out in the best ruffles you can buy, and check out Preen, Fyodor Golan, HAIZHEN WANG  and Marques’ Almeida. Pretty, floaty and flirty, let’s just hope we get some sunshine to show these pretties off!

And when you have something to hide, you might be tempted to try one of the bustle dresses from Erdem, Mary Katrantzou or Simone Rocha who have taken inspiration from Balenciaga; With versions of the iconic bubble dress- which might look extremely pretty, but ain’t gonna be easy to run for a bus in!

More wearable collections, and something who for those who are looking to invest in something practical should definitely take note of Sharon Wauchob- with a collection of (majoritively sleek lines), the trouser suits, oversized macs and boots are a dream!

If you like me, like suits, Eudon Choi is the guy to go to for an oversized pink option, and Daks are channelling a pinstripe (schoolgirl) vibe! If you love a bit of lilac, get thee to Joseph for lilac and checks, and remember you can mix and match!

Whether you are a glamour puss, or a sport billy, there is no doubt you can find something you fancy in London’s fabulous talent. Enjoy and happy shopping.

The New Garconne for modern girls who like to dress like boys!

Comments Off on The New Garconne for modern girls who like to dress like boys! 55Factory, fashion, fblogger, lifestyle, my words, news, review, sara darling, style, Stylist

A must read book for 21st century tomboys…

Meaning: A young woman of the 1920s who rebelled against conventional ideas of ladylike behaviour and dress. Otherwise interpreted as girls with attitude and a great sense of personal style.

Thankfully, this type of woman is still around today, and if you’re a slouchy trousers, white shirt and brogues kind of girl, this book will resonate with you.

LFW is over for another season

Comments Off on LFW is over for another season fashion, fblogger, my words, sara darling, Stylist

Fashion never sleeps in London Town.

The Fashion Fabulous Fashion Crew have left the building and are heading to Milan (or perhaps having a mini break, and recuperating?for Paris).

Whichever way, they should all give themselves a pat on the back and a well-deserved glass of something they fancy, as this season’s fashion week was truly spectacular!

Having to miss the Friday shows due to my best friend’s wedding, I joined the party late, but still managed to see some exceptional shows.

The trends I picked up on are:

Ashish with their array of sequins, layered skirts over trousers, wide legs and golden jewellery, complemented Sophia Webster‘s caged birds (aka models) wearing peacock print and feathers.

Bora Aksu does dresses well, and this season is no exception. Pastels, ruffles and plenty of chiffon mean that there will always be something to impress your boyfriend’s mum, along with pretty dress newcomers, Natasha Zinko and fashionista faves, Preen.

Preferably a one-piece for full effect! Coming in all tones from pastel to poppy to neon- check the shy n retiring Molly Goddard see through shapes. Preen went all pretty and Peter Jensen went loud!?Newcomer Jaewoo Lee was also in on the act with an 80s inspired box jacket.?Christopher Kane did some dusty pink pieces too, but jazzed them up with black lace and Crocs (yup you heard right!!!)

Whatever you think when you imagine a ruffle, it will be available in some form, somewhere in SS17. The Shrimps and?Burberry showed sophisticated ruffle neck blouses, and Henry Holland and Emilio De La Moreno went mad for the ra ra skirt.

Getting ready for work and getting kitted out for the gym are becoming more and more blurred in fashion land. SS17 saw a plethora of designers tapping into sports fabrics, bodycon shapes and easy to wear styles. Some of my faves are PA5H,?which took inspiration for it’s skin tight dresses from the Formula 1 racetrack. Edeline Lee‘s presentation included sweat tops, stripes and sandals, whilst?Clio Peppiatt also referenced the race track in a fun collection mixing lycra body stockings with leather, denim and lace.

It might look like the summer is all pretty in pink, but trust me, there is something for all tastes.

Comments Off on BACK TO SCHOOL WITH BKYLN BOBBLE HATS fashion, fblogger, my words, review, shopping, Stylist

September is one of my favourite months

I know the nights are getting darker and there are no more bank holidays to look forward to until the dreaded ‘C’ time (!!!) but I still love that new shoes, back to school feeling. So as well as my hit list of winter boots, I have started early by stocking up on my first winter bonnet.

I wear a lot of grey, so the super soft merino wool bobble hat from Bklyn?was right up my alley. Versatile enough to wear with many of my coats, it’s not too in yer face to need a special jacket of it’s own! You could almost say, this hat is so cool, it doesn’t need to draw attention to itself with a posse of fancy admirers. The confidence comes from its?simplicity and very fluffy racoon bobble tail.

Yup, we are talking luxury market here, so the tail is real. And very soft. In fact the whole hat feels like you are wearing a halo. Not that I have ever had that experience! (Aherm) but I digress. If you want to feel like a princess, treat yourself or treat a friend, and prepare to be toasty, and talked about. When mine arrived in it’s perfectly packaged cardboard case, it was one of the hottest days of the summer, but I think it works with a bikini too….

Comments Off on OFF DUTY MODEL LOOKS- SUKISHUFU STYLE fashion, fblogger, my words, Stylist

SukiShufu is getting ready for AW

I have been working with luxury sportswear brand SukiShufu for four seasons on her lookbooks and campaign shoots, and this season was very exciting as her collection took inspiration from the 80s, and Prince..and just so happens to be one of my favourite decades (can’t be biased, I actually love the seventies, and sixties.. and come to mention it, fifties too!!)

Luckily we understand eachother really well, and her vision was complemented by some Vivienne Westwood style tap shoes, graphic jewellery?a fedora and legwarmers. Here is a sneaky peek of the result..

The campaign, shot by my partner in crime Christopher Sims will be out very soon.

For more on Suki, check out her site.
